About Us

About us

Sheela Samtani & Reshma Gopwani, both having full time jobs & domestically responsible ladies randomly visited some old age homes for a month or more and then took this on to do every once a month and that’s how they set up Faith Seva (Service) Group in 2009. They were joined by volunteers who helped, contributed their time and through other means to support them every month. Some regular participants then volunteered to be full time active members. The Group was then named Faith Charity Foundation and registered as a society under the Societies Ordinance under Laws of Hong Kong. Some contributions are sent to various organisations in “India as well.”

We are grateful to all volunteers, participants and contributors for funds, time and effort that enable Faith Charity Foundation to pay back to the society in many ways.

It takes one person to build a village, it takes a whole village to build one person. – African Proverb (Anonymous)
I have always lived by three guiding principles that I have learnt from my Master, his holiness Shirdi Sai Baba: “To live and exude with Faith, Forbearance and Patience”. These principles have been pillars of strength in the darkest moments of my life that helped me rediscover my voice for others. Practicing these principles through charity has helped define my life’s purpose and journey to “Love all, Serve all”. I selected the name FAITH for the foundation as it is the essence of my very being and resonates with the attribute.

Chosen ones are able to receive many of life’s true blessings when they cultivate the habit of giving. Giving back to the society within my capacity in any form has been my motto and this charity has enabled me to do just that. It’s helped me to be grateful for all that I have and continue to have. Gratitude is the attitude and so without the Almighty’s blessings, many Saints and Master’s teachings on doing service, the team members and volunteers, this charity is nothing. A big thank you to all the seen and unseen hands that support in so many ways that in turn motivates us to run FAITH CHARITY FOUNDATION.

“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone” ( Anonymous)

This quote has been my motivation from the age of 15 and ever since I engaged myself to help others in every possible way. Fortunately, in 2009 I was introduced to Faith Charity Foundation. I regularly participated in their monthly service events like distribution of groceries & blankets, visits to old age homes, children’s homes, girl’s homes, etc. The happiness that I got by interacting, feeding meals, playing games & laughter yoga with the recipients was beyond measure. Thus, it inspired me to join this foundation as a team member. I gained more valuable experience of inner joy and peace by spreading happiness and smiles to whom we serve.

Winston Churchill once wrote “We make a living from what we get but we make a life from what we give”. I remember like it was yesterday, 2014 was when I stepped into the Faith Charity team. Since the get-go, we have been both consistent and persistent in our approach towards supporting the community. It’s humbling to know that I am in a position to help those around me and honestly, the wide and hearty smiles on their faces makes it extremely fulfilling. I aspire to continue this journey with the team and positively influence more of the community to join us. Hey what do you know, Churchill was right!

The best part of every charity event that we do is the smiles we get to see on the recipients faces. Be it the elderly, children or whomever we serve, the happiness pouring out from them not only elates me, but keeps me grounded. It is the greatest sense of peace and belonging despite our small gestures that make a big impact and is appreciated wholeheartedly. My favourite activity is playing games during our events be it playing bingo or just getting them to sing. It helps us bond and get closer despite the language barrier. As a team member and handling the accounts of Faith Charity, I am so happy to be a part of such positivity.

I have been part of this prestigious team since 2015. And ever since, I have learned to believe that alone we can do little but together we can do more. The motivation and desire to help those in need in return has helped me look beyond myself and feel contented with what I have. Besides, the joy and smile we see on the faces of those we serve and make them feel special takes away my troubles. It’s been a soul-fulfilling experience and always look forward to helping beyond measure.

My experiences as a volunteer and an active member of Faith Charity were most enjoyable and unforgettable. I felt valued and the experiences became one of the happiest pillars of my 7 years in Hong Kong. All the events were extremely well organised which allowed everything to run smoothly. Particular highlights for me were- that as an expat in Hong Kong, it enabled me to see beyond the bubble we expats lived in, Seeing the smile and joy on the faces of the recipients, whether it be the old retired folks or children, was very satisfying. Meeting so many interesting and inspiring people and the Fulfilment after each charity event. Being part of Faith Charity brought me tremendous joy, however having moved back to the UK I can no longer be an active member which is sad indeed!
Faith Charity Foundation please continue the fabulous work you are doing.
